MIDDLE HOUR

Classes for all ages are held from 10:15-11:15 a.m. every Sunday. Children and youth can gather with their peers for UU-based lessons and activities. Adults are invited to look for these three options on various Sundays: Faith in Action, which focuses on our Social Justice activities; Faith in Exploration, which gives visitors and new members an opportunity to learn more about Unitarian Universalism; and Faith in Practice, which discusses spiritual practices of all kinds.

  • Blue Lotus Meditation Center Class – Blue Lotus Meditation Center teaches two sessions per week at UCBR. The Saturday sessions are also hosted on Zoom. Sunday, Sept. 8

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Branches Sampler (Sept. 8, 15 & 22) – Our small group ministry program provides a way for members to connect to the congregation on a deeper level. Come to one, two or all three of these sample sessions to get an idea of what these groups are like.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Parent info session for OWL grades 7-8 – Want to learn more about the Our Whole Lives sexuality education program starting soon for grades 7-8? Drop by this session to get your questions answered.
  • Sixth Source Sharing Circle – 1-2 p.m.LAST MEETING OF 2024! Second Sunday, January to September – UU Pagans discuss their unique path. The group is dedicated to the UU principles and exploring their place in the natural world and their relationship with the gods.

Monday, Sept. 9

  • Women’s Book Club – 6 p.m. – Second Monday of the month – Though this club normally meets at the church and on Zoom at 7 p.m., the September meeting will start at 6 p.m. at an offsite location for their annual book selection potluck. Tuesday, Sept. 10

  • Congregational Care Team – 6:30 p.m. – Select Tuesdays – The CCT meets at church and via Zoom to provide care to people in the church community who are in crisis. (Also: Nov. 12)

Thursday, Sept. 12

  • Interfaith Federation Community Prayer Breakfast – 7-9 a.m – This annual event will be held at Boudreaux’s Events and will offer prayers for the Baton Rouge community. Signup and get your tickets for $25 at the membership table on Sunday mornings at church.

Sunday, Sept. 15

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice Team – Third Sunday of the month – Gather during Middle Hour to discuss the team’s latest activities and updates from focus groups.

  • Fall Blood Drive – 8 a.m.-2 p.m. – Give the priceless gift of blood! Stop by the blood mobile in our parking lot to donate.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice-Reproductive Justice Subteam – Discuss concerns about reproductive justice and what we can do to improve access for those in need. (Also: Nov. 3, Dec. 8)

  • Climate Justice Revival – 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. – Join us for facilitated dialogue and a light lunch to enter into a new era of climate action.   • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice-Climate Action Subteam – Share concerns and work toward putting our faith into action. All perspectives about climate are welcome – whatever your level of awareness or acceptance.  (Also: Oct. 13, Nov. 24, Dec. 29)
  • OWL for Grades 4-5 – 1-2 p.m. – Only registered students whose parents attended orientation may attend this class.

  • Black Joy Collective – 6:30 p.m. – First Tuesday of the month – A supportive gathering space for Black members of UCBR. Our discussions provide an opportunity for sharing, learning, understanding, growing and becoming. Contact ucbrblack@gmail.com.

  • Retirement Support Group – 10 a.m. – First Thursday of the month – Most meetings are at La Madeleine on Jefferson Highway.

Saturday, Oct. 5

  • Art and Jewelry Sale – 8 a.m.-2 p.m. – Donations are being accepted on Sundays until Sept. 22. Then come early to find the best selection of art and jewelry and amazing prices. HUNDREDS of pieces of jewelry from costume to fine gold and gemstones.
  • Cool Night at the Oasis – Ice Cream Social – 5:30-7 p.m. – Take the chill off the heat in the fellowship hall with a free ice cream social.

  • QUUere Fête – 5-9:15 p.m. – This music festival for ALLIES + LGBTQ+ folks will focus on advocacy – amplifying queer voices, liberation and social justice for the entire community. MUSIC, food, fellowship, book sale, merchandise, fun. Ticket purchases opening soon – starting at $10 (kids 12 and under free).

Sunday, Oct. 27

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice-Voting Subteam – Discuss voting concerns and actions that can be taken to improve voting rights. (Also: Oct. 27, Dec. 1)
