Worldwide Candle Lighting Day is Dec. 8

Sunday, December 8, 6-8:30 pm

Join your church in the Fellowship Hall from 6-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 8 for a memorial candle lighting service followed by a potluck dinner. The event is hosted by The Compassionate Friends – Baton Rouge Chapter.

Worldwide Candle Lighting Day is the second Sunday of each December. Though it is recognized during the festive holiday season, the event has nothing to do with traditional religious and cultural Christmas celebrations. Worldwide Candle Lighting Day is a virtual 24-hour global candle lighting ceremony symbolizing compassionate support for each other by families grieving the loss of a child. Believed to be the world’s largest candle lighting ceremony, the day unites those who remember children who have passed on.
