Our new minister of congregational life, Rev. Chris Long, recently led a church service exploring what congregational life ministry actually is. Below are some excerpts from his sermon of August 21, 2022.
In accepting this position, I have agreed to support our work in three primary areas: Connection, Deepening, and Restoration.
- Connection: This includes creating and cultivating a path through membership to connect members to each other and to Unitarian Universalism.
- Deepening: This will honor the history of ministries such as Branches, and help cultivate more Branches groups while we enhance our current adult faith ministries.
- Restoration: This includes pastoral care and pastoral counseling to members of the congregation, as well as overseeing the Naming Project, which aims to uncover the names of the enslaved people who lived on this land in its former life as the Cortana Plantation.
This will be hard work, and in some cases messy, both within in the congregation and in the community. I don’t know how we will get there, but I do believe that we, together, WILL get there!
