MIDDLE HOUR

Classes for all ages are held from 10:15-11:15 a.m. every Sunday. Children and youth can gather with their peers for UU-based lessons and activities. Adults are invited to look for these three options on various Sundays: Faith in Action, which focuses on our Social Justice activities; Faith in Exploration, which gives visitors and new members an opportunity to learn more about Unitarian Universalism; and Faith in Practice, which discusses spiritual practices of all kinds.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Saturday, May 11 – 6-9 p.m. – Annual UCBR Auction – Come pass a great time at our annual auction. Silent and live auction with everything from plants and books to art and vacations. Cash donations for admission gratefully received. Light hors d’oeuvres.

Sunday, May 12 – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Signs of Our Faith – This series will look at the different signs associated with our faith. Learn about what it means to be a welcoming congregation, the history of our chalices and flags and delve into the 8th Principle.

May 13-17 – 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – Holy Grill lunch service – Volunteers are needed to serve lunch at the Holy Grill at the Cadillac Street BREC Park off Plank Road. Visit the Congregational Care Team table on Sundays to sign up.

Saturday, May 25 – 9:30-11:30 a.m. – Family Outdoor Fun Day – Visit an outdoor “forest school” with other children and parents to explore and play. For location and more details on this offsite gathering, visit the dated entry on the website’s calendar.

Saturday, June 8 – 9 a.m.-2 p.m. – Male Bonding Retreat – Do you identify as male, non-gender conforming or masculine presenting? Let’s gather at Hilltop Arboretum for fishing, meditation, an easy hike and a light meal. RSVP to Rev. Chris Long at clong@unitarianchurchbr.com.

Sunday, June 16 – 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – Annual Pride Service – Join us during both morning services to celebrate Pride! Come in all your rainbow glory – ALL of who you are is welcome. ALL of who you are is sacred.

RECURRING MEETINGS

Black Joy Collective – 6:30 p.m. – First Tuesday of the month – A supportive gathering space for Black members of UCBR. Our discussions provide an opportunity for sharing, learning, understanding, growing and becoming. Contact ucbrblack@gmail.com.

Blue Lotus Meditation Center Class – 5:30-6:30 p.m. – Every Wednesday – Blue Lotus Meditation Center teaches a weekly session at UCBR. Bring mats or floor pillows, and RSVP to Rev. Chris Long at clong@unitarianchurchbr.com.

BUDS Family Playgroup – 3-4:30 p.m. – Select Saturdays – (May 18) Befriending UUs, Developing Sprouts. A time for connection and community for caregivers and their young children (ages 0-6). Free play and parent conversation. Older siblings are welcome.

Climate Action – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Select Sundays – (May 26, June 30) A Social Justice Team focus group: Share concerns and work toward putting our faith into action. All perspectives about climate are welcome – whatever your level of awareness or acceptance. 

Congregational Care Team – 6:30 p.m. – Select Tuesdays – (May 14, July 9, Sept. 10, Nov. 12) The CCT meets at church and via Zoom to provide care to people in the church community who are in crisis.

Education/Social Justice – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Select Sundays – (May 12, June 23, July 28) A Social Justice Team focus group: Meet with others to discuss concerns about local education and what can be done to create a better environment for students, teachers and families.

LGBTQ+ Youth Circle – 11 a.m.-noon – Third Saturday of the month – (May 18) This group uses art and storytelling to provide inspiration for justice-making and liberation for LGBTQ+ youth ages 12-18, grounded in our faith and accompanying them into the wider community.

Lunch Bunch – 1 p.m. – Select Sundays – Gather with other UUs after church for lunch at local restaurants. Locations and dates are announced in our weekly emails.

Open Circle Book Club – 7 p.m. – First Sunday of the month – This monthly book club meets at the church and on Zoom. Upcoming titles and Zoom links are shown in the individual calendar entries for each event.

Reproductive Rights – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Select Sundays – (June 9, July 14) A Social Justice Team focus group: Share concerns and work toward putting our faith into action in the area of reproductive rights.

Retirement Support Group – 10 a.m. – First Thursday of the month – Most meetings are at La Madeleine on Jefferson Highway.

Sixth Source Sharing Circle – 1-2 p.m. – Second Sunday, January to September – UU Pagans discuss their unique path. The group is dedicated to the UU principles and exploring their place in the natural world and their relationship with the gods.

Social Justice Team – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Third Sunday of the month – Gather during Middle Hour to discuss the team’s latest activities and updates from focus groups.

Voting Rights – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Select Sundays – (June 2, July 7) A Social Justice Team focus group – Join others to discuss voting concerns and actions that can be taken to improve voting rights.

Women’s Book Club – 7 p.m. – Second Monday of the month – This monthly book club meets at the church and on Zoom. Upcoming titles and Zoom links are shown in the individual calendar entries for each event.

Yoga for UU – 5:45-6:30 p.m. – Select Mondays – (May 20 – On hiatus in June/July) Bring a mat and anything else you wish. Classes are beginner friendly and donation-based with all proceeds going to the church.
