CAPITAL DRIVE LAUNCH PARTY — SATURDAY, NOV. 7 — 6-8 PM — Join us in the Fellowship Hall as we kick off UCBR’s Capital Drive with The Fountain of Possibilities: A Party with a Mission and Goal. Dream with us about the future we can create. Want to dress for the theme? Magical, fantasy, whimsical or enchanted attire is welcome, but not required. Enjoy food catered by Chef Charles Wilford, a dessert bar by Precious Murphy and a live music trio. Childcare will be provided, with children enjoying their own special party and age-appropriate activities.

SUNDAY MIDDLE HOUR

Classes for all ages are held 10:15-11:15 a.m. every Sunday. Children and youth can gather for UU-based lessons and activities. Adults are invited to look for these three options: Faith in Action (social justice activities), Faith in Exploration (learn about Unitarian Universalism) and Faith in Practice (discuss spiritual practices of all kinds).

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Jewelry Donations Accepted – 10:15 a.m. – The planning team for the Art and Jewelry Sale will accept jewelry donations through Nov. 6. (Art donations will be accepted closer to the event date which is Nov. 21.)
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Sacred Reading of Calvin and Hobbes – 10:15 a.m. – For five Sundays in November, join fellow readers as we treat this beloved comic strip as a catalyst for spiritual growth. In this class, you will learn and practice sacred reading techniques that help open us to new understandings of ourselves as well as the characters on the page.   • MIDDLE HOUR: Board Chat – 10:15 a.m. – Meet with your Board Members on Sundays throughout October and November. Bring your coffee and snack to the Fellowship Hall and join them for a chat
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Minister Meet & Greet – 10:15 a.m.  – Sit down with one of our ministers for a casual chat, a deep discussion on theology, or any topic you’d like!
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice Meeting – most Sundays – 10:15 a.m. – UCBR Action Fair: Visit tables to learn about volunteer opportunities and community organizations in the greater Baton Rouge area.
  • Open Circle Book Club – First Sunday of the month – 7 p.m. – This club meets in the church office. Upcoming titles are shown in the individual calendar entries for each event. (Also: Dec. 6)

Tuesday, Nov. 3

  • Black Joy Collective – First Tuesday of the month – 6:30 p.m. – A supportive gathering space for Black members of UCBR. Discussions provide an opportunity for sharing, learning, understanding, growing and becoming. Contact ucbrblack@gmail.com. (Also: Dec. 1)

  • Samhain Ritual – 6 p.m. — Join the Sixth Source Sharing Circle in the choir room for a community ritual celebrating Samhain to acknowledge the final harvest of 2026 with reflection and intention. You are welcome to bring photos or mementos for our ancestor table and to contribute to a potluck feast if you are willing and able.

Sunday, Nov. 8

  • Congregational Care Team – Second Sunday/Odd months – 10:15 a.m. – The CCT meets at church and via Zoom to provide care to people in the church community who are in crisis.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice Meeting – most Sundays – 10:15 a.m. – Capi Landreneau shares general information about intersex variations and identities and the Restoring Biological Truth Act and its impact on Louisiana residents. 
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Signs and Symbols of Our Faith – 10:15 a.m. – This three-part series introduces newcomers and signs and symbols associated with Unitarian Universalism, from chalices and flags to what it means to be a welcoming or antiracist congregation. Attend one, two or all three: Nov. 8, 15 and 22.
  • Outreach Team – 1 p.m. – This team plans many of the church’s outreach activities. Anyone interested in getting involved is welcome. Room 5.
  • Compassionate Friends BR Chapter – 2:30-5 p.m. – Providing highly personal comfort, hope and support to families experiencing the death of a child or grandchild and helping others better assist the grieving family.

  • TransUU: Living and Loving Others Amid the Gender Spectrum – Fourth Sunday of the month –1-2:30 p.m. – Discussion and relationship-building for those with transgender, nonbinary or gender-nonconforming loved ones. Open to all. (Also: Dec. 27)

  • Louisiana Queer Arts Festival – 10 a.m.-6 p.m. – Stop by the Main Library on Goodwood for this free, family-friendly event featuring artists, vendors, food, music and more. Be sure to look for the church’s table for freebies, info and face paint!

Thursday, Dec. 3

  • Dr. Becky Cureau Tribute Concert – 7-9 p.m. – This concert will honor the life and musical legacy of Dr. Becky Cureau. The evening will feature performances celebrating her decades of dedication to music education and the many lives she touched.

Saturday, Dec. 12

  • New Orleans Gay Men’s Chorus – 7:30 p.m. – “Tis the Season” for the chorus to bring their holiday concert back to our church! For more information and tickets, visit www.nogmc.org

Sunday, Dec. 13

  • Sixth Source Sharing Circle – 1-2 p.m. – UU Pagans discuss their unique path. The group is dedicated to the UU principles and exploring their place in the natural world and their relationship with the gods.
  • BR Chapter of the Compassionate Friends Memorial Candlelight Service – 5:30-9 p.m. – The event will include a potluck dinner and is intended to show support for families grieving the loss of a child.

Friday, Dec. 18

  • Campfire Sing-along – 6-8 p.m. – Join our music director and director of family ministries around the campfire to sing seasonal favorites, camp songs, rounds, fun songs, easy songs. S’mores will be served! (We’ll be in the sanctuary if the weather precludes an outside event.)

Monday, Dec. 21

  • Annual Winter Solstice – 7-8 p.m. – This annual service marks the longest night of the year with drumming, candlelight and music. The service will also be live streamed on our YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/@UnitarianBR
