OCTOBER ADULT CLASSES — Introduction to Our Church – This three-part series introduces newcomers and others to the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, from what we worship to how to get involved. Held during Middle Hour on three Sundays in Room 6, feel free to attend one, two or all three sessions: Oct. 11, 18, 25.

SUNDAY MIDDLE HOUR

Classes for all ages are held 10:15-11:15 a.m. every Sunday. Children and youth can gather for UU-based lessons and activities. Adults are invited to look for these three options: Faith in Action (social justice activities), Faith in Exploration (learn about Unitarian Universalism) and Faith in Practice (discuss spiritual practices of all kinds).

  • Drop-In Grief Gathering – 6:30-8p – Join Rev. Meredith and Capi Landreneau for a space dedicated to processing and understanding grief.

Saturday, Oct. 24

  • Halloween Party – 5-7 p.m. – Enjoy pumpkin painting, crafts, games, trick-or-treating, s’mores around the firepit and more! Get your best costume ready and grab a friend. Sunday, Oct. 25

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice Meeting – most Sundays – 10:15 a.m. – Find out how you can get involved with bringing more social justice into the world.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Intro to Our Church – 10:15 a.m. – This three-part series introduces newcomers and others to the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, from what we worship to how to get involved. Attend one, two or all three: Oct. 11, 18, 25.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Board Chat – 10:15 a.m. – Meet with your Board Members on Sundays throughout October and November. Bring your coffee and snack to the Fellowship Hall and join them for a chat TransUU: Living and Loving Others Amid the Gender Spectrum – Fourth Sunday of the month –1-2:30 p.m. – Discussion and relationship-building for those with transgender, nonbinary or gender-nonconforming loved ones.   • MIDDLE HOUR: Sacred Reading of Calvin and Hobbes – 10:15 a.m. – For five Sundays in November, join fellow readers as we treat this beloved comic strip as a catalyst for spiritual growth. In this class, you will learn and practice sacred reading techniques that help open us to new understandings of ourselves as well as the characters on the page.   • MIDDLE HOUR: Minister Meet & Greet – 10:15 a.m.  – Sit down with one of our ministers for a casual chat, a deep discussion on theology, or any topic you’d like!

  • Capital Drive Launch Party – 6-8 p.m. – Save the date and get ready to celebrate this momentous event!
  • Samhain Ritual – 7 p.m. — Join our Sixth Source Sharing Circle — a group for UU Pagans and dedicated to the UU principles and exploring their place in the natural world and their relationship with the divine. All are welcome!

Sunday, Nov. 8

  • Congregational Care Team – Second Sunday/Odd months – 10:15 a.m. – The CCT meets at church and via Zoom to provide care to people in the church community who are in crisis.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice Meeting – most Sundays – 10:15 a.m. – Find out how you can get involved with bringing more social justice into the world.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Signs and Symbols of Our Faith – 10:15 a.m. – This three-part series introduces newcomers and signs and symbols associated with Unitarian Universalism, from chalices and flags to what it means to be a welcoming or antiracist congregation. Attend one, two or all three: Nov. 8, 15 and 22.
  • Outreach Team – 1 p.m. – This team plans many of the church’s outreach activities. Anyone interested in getting involved is welcome. Room 5.
  • Compassionate Friends BR Chapter – 2:30-5 p.m. – Providing highly personal comfort, hope and support to families experiencing the death of a child or grandchild and helping others better assist the grieving family.

  • Drum Circle – 5:30 p.m. – Gather, Move, Make Noise! Join the Community Drum Circle near our Peace Stones one Saturday each month. (Also: Dec. 19)

Sunday, Dec. 13

  • Sixth Source Sharing Circle – 1-2 p.m. – UU Pagans discuss their unique path. The group is dedicated to the UU principles and exploring their place in the natural world and their relationship with the gods.

Friday, Dec. 18

  • Campfire Sing-along – 6-8 p.m. – Join our music director and director of family ministries around the campfire to sing seasonal favorites, camp songs, rounds, fun songs, easy songs. S’mores will be served! (We’ll be in the sanctuary if the weather precludes an outside event.)
