SUNDAY MIDDLE HOUR

Classes for all ages are held 10:15-11:15 a.m. every Sunday. Children and youth can gather for UU-based lessons and activities. Adults are invited to look for these three options: Faith in Action (social justice activities), Faith in Exploration (learn about Unitarian Universalism) and Faith in Practice (discuss spiritual practices of all kinds).

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice Meeting – most Sundays – 10:15 a.m. – Come find out how you can get involved in the church’s social justice actions.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: How to Avoid Scams – 10:15 a.m. – This presentation by the Attorney General’s Office will be offered in the Fellowship Hall. Though targeted to helping elder tech users learn about common scams and the best tactics to avoid them, all are welcome.

Saturday, Aug. 22

  • Drum Circle – 5:30 p.m. – Gather, Move, Make Noise! Join the monthly Community Drum Circle near our Peace Stones one Saturday each month. (Also: Sept. 26, Oct. 17)

Sunday, Aug. 23

  • TransUU: Living and Loving Others Amid the Gender Spectrum – Fourth Sunday of the month –1-2:30 p.m. – Join others for a discussion and relationship-building group for those with loved ones who are transgender, nonbinary or gender nonconforming. Open to all. (Also: Sept. 27)

Saturday, Aug. 29

  • Sri Lankan Food Festival – 4-7 p.m. – The Blue Lotus Meditation Center will return to the church with this festival filled with a variety of Sri Lankan foods while supporting their fundraising efforts. Sunday, Aug. 30

  • Blood Drive – 8 a.m-2 p.m. – Stop by the blood bank’s bus in the parking lot to give the priceless gift of life.
  • Outreach Team – 1 p.m. – This team works to organize and plan many of the church’s outreach activities. Anyone interested in getting involved is welcome at the meetings. Room 5.

Tuesday, Sept. 1

  • Black Joy Collective – First Tuesday of the month – 6:30 p.m. – A supportive gathering space for Black members of UCBR. Our discussions provide an opportunity for sharing, learning, understanding, growing and becoming. Contact ucbrblack@gmail.com. (Also: Oct. 6)

Thursday, Sept. 3

  • Retirement Support Group – First Thursday of the month – 10 a.m. – Most meetings are at La Madeleine on Jefferson Highway. (Also: Oct. 1)

Sunday, Sept. 6

  • Congregational Meeting – 10:15 a.m. – A congregational meeting will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6 to vote on authorize a capital fund drive. Members are encouraged to attend as a quorum will be required to call a vote. Early voting will be accepted via email to office@unitarianbr.org until Friday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m.
  • Open Circle Book Club – First Sunday of the month – 7 p.m. – This club meets in the church office. Upcoming titles are shown in the individual calendar entries for each event. (Also: Oct. 4)

Sunday, Sept. 13

  • Congregational Care Team – Second Sunday/Odd months – 10:15 a.m. – The CCT meets at church and via Zoom to provide care to people in the church community who are in crisis. (Also: Nov. 8)
  • Sixth Source Sharing Circle – 1-2 p.m. – UU Pagans discuss their unique path. The group is dedicated to the UU principles and exploring their place in the natural world and their relationship with the gods. (Also: Dec. 13)
  • Movable Pray-for-Peace Vigil – 2-4 p.m. – The Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge along with local congregations, including the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, invite you to visit one or all sites. Stay for a few minutes or the full time as we pray for peace. Info on additional sites will be available at UCBR. 
  • Compassionate Friends BR Chapter – 2:30-5 p.m. – This group provides highly personal comfort, hope and support to every family experiencing the death of a child or grandchild and helps others better assist the grieving family. (Also: Oct. 11)

Wednesday, Sept. 16

  • Holy Grill Celebration Luncheon – Noon – Partners, volunteers and founders are invited to this celebration as part of the Interfaith Federation’s 40th anniversary week. Stop by the BREC park at 6117 Cadillac St. to join the event.

Thursday, Sept 17

  • Annual Community Prayer Breakfast – 7-9 a.m. (doors open at 6:30 a.m.) – The Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge’s annual breakfast in recognition of charter member organizations will be held at Boudreaux’s at 2647 Government St. Tickets are $30 and available until Sept. 7 at https://givebutter.com/2026-annual-community-prayer-breakfast-ozmg3d
