Family Potluck Lunch and Tree Trimming Party – Sunday, Dec. 1 – 12:30-3 p.m. – Gather for a potluck lunch in the Fellowship Hall at 12:30 p.m. and stick around for the 1 p.m. tree trimming extravaganza. We’ll enjoy food, crafts, music and time to connect with folks of ALL ages. Help us make our sanctuary festive for the holiday season.

Kid’s Café Christmas Sign-Ups – Visit the sign-up table at church to help with the annual Interfaith Federation’s Christmas Kid’s Café to buy gifts for participating families. GIFTS DUE: Wrapped and back to the church by Sunday, Dec. 8. PARTY: At Holy Grill (Cadillac Street BREC Park) on Friday, Dec. 13.


Classes for all ages are held 10:15-11:15 a.m. every Sunday. Children and youth can gather for UU-based lessons and activities. Adults are invited to look for these three options: Faith in Action (social justice activities), Faith in Exploration (learn about Unitarian Universalism) and Faith in Practice (discuss spiritual practices of all kinds).

Meditation Class – Blue Lotus Meditation Center teaches two sessions per week at UCBR – On Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays at 5 p.m. The Saturday sessions are also hosted on Zoom. Friday, Nov. 22

  • White Light Night – 6-10 p.m. – Come wander up and down Government Street during the annual event filled with art, music, shopping and fun and stop by our church info booth at Planned Parenthood, 3825 Gov’t. St., to say hello!

Sunday, Nov. 24

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Intro to our Church – Who We’ve Been, Who We Are and How You Can Be a Part of Us – This three-part class will share info specific to the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge. Held Nov. 10, 17 and 24, you are invited to come to one, two or all three sessions. (Follow-up classes in December will look at info specific to the Unitarian Universalist faith tradition.)
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice-Climate Action Subteam – Share concerns and work toward putting our faith into action. All perspectives about climate are welcome – whatever your level of awareness or acceptance.  (Also: Dec. 29, Feb. 2, March 9, April 13, May 25, June 29)

Sunday, Dec. 1

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Minister Meet & Greet – Sit down with one of our ministers for a casual get-to-know-you chat, a deep discussion on theology, or any topic you’d like!
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice-Voting Subteam – Discuss voting concerns and actions that can be taken to improve voting rights. (Also Jan. 5, Feb. 9, March 23, April 27, June 1)
  • Family Potluck Lunch – 12:30 p.m. – Families of all ages and configurations are invited to share lunch after worship on Dec. 1. Make new friends, connect with old friends, build community together! Lunch from 12:30-1 p.m., followed by our annual Tree Trimming Party. Sign up at church to contribute food!
  • Gen ZUU – 1 p.m. – First Sunday of the Month – Join other Gen Z adults for lunch and fellowship. This month’s meeting will be combined with the on-campus family potluck. The Gen Z UU Crew is encouraged to join others for lunch at that event.
  • Tree Trimming Party – 1-3 p.m. – Ornament making and tree decorating – for everyone! Snacks, crafts, holiday soundtrack. Make some memories with your church community while together we make our sanctuary beautiful for the holidays.
  • Interfaith Federation Winter Assembly – 2:30 p.m. – This meeting at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2021 Tara Blvd., is open to all friends of the Federation and will be a time to reflect on the past and look to the future. RSVP at https://form.jotform.com/243178267706161

Tuesday, Dec. 3

  • Black Joy Collective – 6:30 p.m. – First Tuesday of the month – A supportive gathering space for Black members of UCBR. Our discussions provide an opportunity for sharing, learning, understanding, growing and becoming. Contact ucbrblack@gmail.com.

Thursday, Dec. 5

  • Retirement Support Group – 10 a.m. – First Thursday of the month – Most meetings are at La Madeleine on Jefferson Highway.

Sunday, Dec. 8

  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice-Reproductive Justice Subteam – Discuss concerns about reproductive justice and what we can do to improve access for those in need. (Also Jan. 12, Feb. 23, March 30, May 4, June 8)
  • OWL for Grades 4-5 – 1-2 p.m./Grades 7-8 – 1-3 p.m. – Only registered students whose parents attended orientation may attend this class.  

Monday, Dec. 9

Sunday, Dec. 15

  • Winter Blood Drive – 8 a.m.-2 p.m. – Give the priceless gift of blood! Stop by the blood mobile in our parking lot to donate.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice Team – Third Sunday of the month – Gather during Middle Hour to discuss the team’s latest activities and updates from focus groups.

Friday, Dec. 20

  • Winter Solstice Service – 7 p.m. – Gather in the sanctuary for our annual winter solstice service to mark the longest night of the year.

Sunday, Dec. 22

  • Impromptu Christmas Pageant – 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – Be a part of our pageant at either morning service. It’s a congregational retelling of the story of Jesus’ birth with costumes and casting done live and on the spot. 
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Social Justice-Education Subteam – Discuss concerns about local education and what can be done to create a better environment for students, teachers and families. (Also Jan. 26, March 2, April 6, May 11, June 22)

Tuesday, Dec. 24

  • Christmas Eve Services – 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. – Two annual candlelit services with special music, readings and community.

Sunday, Dec. 29

  • Kwanzaa Services – 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – Our annual Kwanzaa Services will be held.
  • MIDDLE HOUR: Family Potluck Brunch – Families of all ages and configurations – gather for brunch and fun between services in Fellowship Hall. Make new friends, catch up with old friends, let’s build community together!

Tuesday, Jan. 14

  • Congregational Care Team – 6:30 p.m. – Select Tuesdays – The CCT meets at church and via Zoom to provide care to people in the church community who are in crisis. (Also March 11, May 13, July 8, Sept. 9, Nov. 11)
  • Lunch Bunch – 1 p.m. – Select Sundays – Gather with other UUs after church for lunch at local restaurants. Locations and dates are announced in our weekly emails.
