MIDDLE HOUR
Classes for all ages are held 10:15-11:15 a.m. every Sunday. Children and youth can gather with their peers for UU-based lessons and activities. Adults are invited to look for these three options on various Sundays: Faith in Action, which focuses on our Social Justice activities; Faith in Exploration, which gives visitors and new members an opportunity to learn more about Unitarian Universalism; and Faith in Practice, which discusses spiritual practices of all kinds.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Dec. 4-8 – Volunteer service at the Holy Grill – Visit the CCT table on Sunday to sign up to help serve lunch at the Holy Grill during this week in December.
Saturday, Dec. 9 – 7:30-9:30 p.m. – New Orleans Gay Men’s Chorus Winter Concert – The New Orleans Gay Men’s Chorus will be returning to our church.
Sunday, Dec. 10 – DEADLINE TO DONATE – Kids Café donations – If you signed up to help, your donated gifts for the Kids Café must be at the church by this date. The event is coordinated by the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge for the families who use the Holy Grill free lunch program. You can also sign up to help with the party and gift distribution on Dec. 15.
Sunday, Dec. 10 – 6-8:30 p.m. – Worldwide Candle Lighting/Potluck – Worldwide Candle Lighting Day is a global ceremony of support for families grieving the loss of a child. Join your church in our Fellowship Hall, followed by a potluck dinner. Hosted by The Compassionate Friends – Baton Rouge Chapter.
Sunday, Dec. 17 – 9 and 11:30 a.m. – Christmas Pageant – Our impromptu pageant returns. Enjoy the show or volunteer to participate as a cast member on the spot. No prep or experience needed!
Thursday, Dec. 21 – 7-8 p.m. – Winter Solstice Service – Mark the longest night of the year and celebrate the return of the light.
Saturdays – Dec. 23, Feb. 3, March 16 – 9:30-11:30 a.m. – Family Outdoor Fun Day – Visit an outdoor “forest school” with other children and parents to explore and play. For location and more details on this offsite gathering, visit the dated entry on the website’s calendar.
Sunday, Dec. 24 – 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. – Annual Candlelight Christmas Eve Services – Celebrate the season with hymns and a retelling of the Christmas story in the beauty of our candlelit sanctuary. Two service times available.
Sunday, Dec. 31 – 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – Kwanzaa Celebration – Join us during both morning services for our annual Kwanzaa Celebration.
Sunday, Jan. 7 – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Minister Meet & Greet – Sit down with one of our ministers in a casual setting to ask questions and learn more about our church.
Sundays, Jan. 14, 21 and 28 – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Branches Sampler – A three-session series to introduce people to Branches, our small ministries group program. Learn more by attending one or all three sessions.
Sunday, March 31 – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Easter Egg Hunt and Party – Gather between the two services for an egg hunt, games, crafts and more!
RECURRING MEETINGS
Black Joy Collective – 6:30 p.m. – First Tuesday of the month – A supportive gathering space for Black members of UCBR. Our discussions provide an opportunity for sharing, learning, understanding, growing and becoming. Contact ucbrblack@gmail.com.
BUDS Family Playgroup – 3-4:30 p.m. – Select Saturdays – (Dec. 16, Jan. 27, Feb. 24, March 23, April 20, May 18) Befriending UUs, Developing Sprouts. A time for connection and community for caregivers and their young children (ages 0-6). Free play and parent conversation. Older siblings are welcome.
Climate Action – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Select Sundays – (Feb. 4, March 10, April 14, May 26, June 30) A Social Justice Team focus group: Share concerns and work toward putting our faith into action. All perspectives about climate are welcome – whatever your level of awareness or acceptance.
Congregational Care Team – 6:30 p.m. – Select Tuesdays – (Jan. 9, March 12, May 14, July 9, Sept. 10, Nov. 12) The CCT meets at church and via Zoom to provide care to people in the church community who are in crisis.
Education/Social Justice – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Select Sundays – (Jan. 28, March 3, April 7, May 12, June 23, July 28) A Social Justice Team focus group: Meet with others to discuss concerns about local education and what can be done to create a better environment for students, teachers and families.
LGBTQ+ Youth Circle – 11 a.m.-noon – Third Saturdays – (Jan. 20, Feb. 17, March 16, April 20, May 18) This group uses art and storytelling to provide inspiration for justice-making and liberation for LGBTQ+ youth ages 12-18, grounded in our faith and accompanying them into the wider community.
Lunch Bunch – 1 p.m. – Select Sundays – Gather with other UUs after church for lunch at local restaurants. Locations and dates are announced in our weekly emails.
Open Circle Book Club – 7 p.m. – First Sunday of the month – This monthly book club meets via Zoom.
Reproductive Rights – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Select Sundays – (Jan. 14, Feb. 25, March 31, May 5, June 9, July 14) A Social Justice Team focus group: Share concerns and work toward putting our faith into action in the area of reproductive rights.
Retirement Support Group – 10 a.m. – First Thursday of the month – Most meetings are at La Madeleine on Jefferson Highway.
Sixth Sacred Source Circle – 1-2 p.m. – Second Sunday, January to September – UU Pagans discuss their unique path. The group is dedicated to the UU principles and exploring their place in the natural world and their relationship with the gods.
Social Justice Team – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Third Sunday of the month – Gather during Middle Hour to discuss the team’s latest activities and updates from focus groups.
Voting Rights – 10:15-11:15 a.m. – Select Sundays – (Dec. 10, Jan. 7, Feb. 11, March 24, April 28, June 2, July 7) A Social Justice Team focus group – Join others to discuss voting concerns and actions that can be taken to improve voting rights.
Women’s Book Club – 7 p.m. – Second Monday of the month – This monthly book club meets at the church and on Zoom.Yoga for UU – 10-11 a.m. – Select Saturdays – (Dec. 16) Bring a mat and anything else you wish. Classes are beginner friendly and donation-based with all proceeds going to the church.
