UCBR 101: Simple Sessions to Learn and Connect

Want to learn more about Unitarian Universalism, the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge and the many ways to connect with our community? Our Faith in Exploration programs during Sunday’s Middle Hour are a great place to start.

These sessions meet at 10:15 a.m. between our Sunday services and rotate throughout the year, with each program offered at least twice annually. They’re designed to help you explore our faith, learn more about our congregation and traditions, and discover ways to build deeper connections at UCBR.

While these sessions can be especially helpful for those considering membership, they are recommended but not required for membership. Newcomers, longtime members and everyone in between are welcome.

  • Introduction to Our Faith (3 sessions): What is Unitarian Universalism, and what do UUs believe? This three-part series offers an opportunity to explore our faith and learn more about the ideas and traditions that shape Unitarian Universalism.
  • Introduction to Our Church (3 sessions): Get to know UCBR! This three-session series focuses specifically on the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge and offers a closer look at how our congregation worships, serves and builds community.
  • Signs and Symbols of Our Faith (3 sessions): Why do we light a chalice? What are the principles and traditions associated with Unitarian Universalism? This three-part series explores the signs, symbols and traditions that help tell the story of our faith.
  • Branches Sampler (1 session): Experience Branches, UCBR’s small-group ministry, and see what these smaller gatherings are all about. A sampler session gives you a chance to experience the format and discover another way to build relationships and find a place to belong within our larger church community.
  • Meet the Minister (1 session): Grab a cup of coffee and settle in for a casual conversation with Rev. Nathan Ryan or Rev. Meredith Barber. Meet the Minister offers an informal opportunity to get acquainted, ask questions and talk about UCBR, Unitarian Universalism or whatever else is on your mind.

Come explore with us. You don’t have to complete these programs in a particular order — or wait until you’re considering membership. Come to the sessions that interest you whenever they appear on the Middle Hour schedule.

Whether you’re brand new to UCBR or have been around for years, there’s always more to explore, another connection to make and another way to belong.
